Look for the terms size and width. The size of any Danner boot tells you how long the boots are from the heel to the toe. Conversely, width measures from side to side at the ball of the foot. Pay attention to how your boots feel. Once you’ve got the right boot for the right job in the right size and width, it’s time to wear them a bit. Try wearing your new boots with the same socks you would wear on the job. Then pay attention to how much wiggle room your toes have (a little is a good thing), where your toes are at the front of the boots (they shouldn’t touch the front when you’re on an incline), if your heel stays in place, and if the width is right for you. Also pay close attention to any areas that hurt when you walk. Chances are, those spots will cause blisters later if your boots don’t fit right.

Quick tips for improvement. If you’re convinced you’ve found the right pair of boots be sure to tighten and loosen the laces at different parts of the boot to get an even better fit. You can also try inserts to help absorb more shock if you need it.
